Welcome to the Elgendy Lab!
The Elgendy Lab is part of the Center for Clinical Pharmacology, which is a partnership between two historic institutions in St. Louis - University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, specifically the Department of Anesthesiology. Our main research focus is medicinal chemistry of nuclear hormone receptors. We utilize our knowledge of organic synthesis, computational chemistry, and medicinal chemistry to design and synthesize novel modulators for various nuclear receptors. There is a lack of selective and efficacious chemical probes for many of these targets that hinders their clinical translatability. We aim to develop safe therapeutics that can target some of these receptors, namely REV-ERB, ERR, and LXR and to validate these targets as putative targets for the treatment of challenging diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, atherosclerosis, cancer, and Fatty liver diseases.
Other areas of research interests: Synthetic methodologies and development of anti-microbial agents to combat multi-drug resistant bacteria.
